Wii Balance Board

Explanation:

Nintendo has almost always been the pioneer for new gaming hardware, while most companies, such as Microsoft or Sony, focus on graphics. The Wii was promising when it came out. The new controllers that could track movement were the biggest feature that put Wii up on the top. But coming in 2nd for the Wii’s best hardware is probably the Wii Balance Board. It is a slab of plastic and circuit boards that you stand on. It can measure your weight, sense where you are leaning, and tell you if you jumped (which is encouraged not to do because it may damage the board). The board has already been used in games like Wii Fit, where you do various ‘activities’ using balance and movement, to games like Sean White, where you snowboard down a virtual hill. The game developers are constantly finding new ways to use the board.

Review:

7/10 Stars

While the Wii balance board hosts many unique and unusual features, it is still beaten by one of Sony’s creations, which is a camera attached to the TV that sensors movement. Of course that may be worse than the balance board, simply because it can’t sense weight movement. Anyways, the board is unique, earning 4 stars. It also has a variety of games which are used with it, gaining an extra 2 stars, and it also is a reasonable price, which earns its last star. In the future, it could be improved upon by allowing you to jump (2 stars) and have better sensors (1 star, since it is almost perfect, but not quite).

White, future looking
